07Jul By Advocate Joan LangatJuly 16, 20260Research and Learning Refugee Legal Networks (RLN), as a member of the Refugee Access to Work Inclusion – East Africa (RAWI-EA) Coalition, participated in a stakeholder coordination meeting convened to operationalize the Nairobi County Refugee Integration and Community Building Strategy (NCRIS) 2025–2030. The meeting brought together representatives from Nairobi City County, civil society organizations like Kituo Cha Sheria, The Legal Caravan, Refugee Consortium of Kenya, IRC, Inkomoko,Youth Voices Community and HIAC among others, development partners, and refugee-serving institutions to establish Thematic Coordination Units (TCUs) that will spearhead the implementation of the Strategy. The five thematic areas include Education & Skills Training, Trade & Enterprise, Health Care & Social Services, Community Engagement & Cultural Exchanges, and Legal Information & Enforcement. RLN actively contributed to the Legal Information & Enforcement Thematic Coordination Unit, reaffirming its commitment to advancing access to justice, legal awareness, and the protection of refugees and asylum seekers in Nairobi. During the discussions, RLN shared its plans to host Continuous Professional Development (CPD) webinars on refugee law and confirmed its readiness to provide technical legal support through legal aid and rights awareness initiatives. Recognizing that legal protection and economic inclusion go hand in hand, RLN also expressed interest in supporting the legal integration of refugees into Nairobi County’s proposed market stalls initiative under the Trade & Enterprise thematic area, helping ensure that refugees are equipped to participate in livelihoods opportunities within the law. As implementation of the NCRIS Strategy progresses, RLN remains committed to working alongside government, development partners, civil society, and refugee communities to promote legal protection, social cohesion, and durable solutions that enable refugees to live with dignity and contribute meaningfully to their host communities.
