The Road to International Youth Day 2026 has officially begun, with a series of inclusive pre activities launched across nine sub-counties in Nairobi. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) and its partners, including Refugee Legal Networks (RLN), to empower youth, host communities, refugees and asylum seekers through advocacy and capacity building. Running from 29th July to 10th August 2026 under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” these forums bring together participants from different sub-counties having a diverse mix of young people, local residents, and forcibly displaced persons with the goal of fostering social cohesion, mutual understanding, and shared responsibilities for a peaceful Nairobi. A key highlight of the program is the session on Peace Building and Good Governance, facilitated by RLN in partnership with the NCCG. This session focuses on equipping all participants with practical skills in conflict resolution, dialogue, and civic engagement. By creating a safe space for shared learning, RLN is bridging divides and building trust between host communities and displaced populations. Facilitator Cephas N. The forums also serve as a critical advocacy platform for the Nairobi County Refugee Integration and Community Building Strategy (NCRIS) 2025-2030, presented by the Balozi Mtaani. RLN is actively involved in promoting the NCRIS document, which seeks to integrate refugees and asylum seekers into the socio-economic fabric of the city, ensuring they are not just recipients of aid, but active contributors to community development. Beyond Peace building, the program addresses mental health and psychosocial support (MHPS) in partnership with National Council of Churches Kenya (NCCK), and Youth Initiatives Kenya (YIKE), recognizing that true empowerment requires emotional well being for all, especially those who have experienced displacement. These activities reflect Nairobi City County’s commitment to an inclusive, participatory approach to youth development, one that leaves no one behind. And we believe that by empowering youth, host communities, and refugees alike, the initiative moves beyond rhetoric to build a more cohesive, resilient, and prosperous capital.
