National Refugee Legal Technical Working Group

Refugee Legal Networks (RLN) participated in the National Refugee Legal Technical Working Group (NRL-TWG) Strategic Workshop held in Naivasha from 9^th –12^th  June 2026, bringing together government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, academia, and refugee-serving actors to shape Kenya’s refugee legal and policy agenda through 2030.

During the workshop, RLN contributed to discussions on strategic litigation, refugee documentation, legal aid, and policy reform, while sharing updates on its ongoing litigation and legal protection initiatives. RLN also introduced its upcoming Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Webinar Series aimed at strengthening knowledge and practice in refugee law among legal practitioners and stakeholders.

The workshop developed a shared roadmap for strengthening refugee protection, emphasizing coordinated legal reform, county engagement, refugee inclusion in decision-making, and improved access to justice. Participants underscored that effective implementation of refugee policies requires stronger collaboration between government, humanitarian actors, civil society, and refugee communities themselves.

RLN remains committed to contributing its legal expertise and advocacy to advance a refugee protection system that is rights-based, inclusive, and responsive to the realities faced by refugees in Kenya.
